The Service of Modesty

By Miss Carrie A. - 2010 Essay Contest Runner Up

    What is modesty?

It’s many things. It’s why we don’t walk around without clothes on. We all have jobs and duties in this world, a loyalty to others and to the Father.

The same way that we should keep the world clean and the water pure we should keep our souls clean and our body’s pure.

Have you ever gone by a park, small road or town that has trash lying around and looks like no one cares about its appearance? When you walk out of the house in an outfit that EVERYONE at school is wearing but your dad would freak if he saw you in, you are demonstrating that you don’t care how others feel. Immodesty is a selfish act.

After having a talk with my father he explained that men tend to be drawn to women in Inappropriate clothes and I realized that the only reason that women wear these is to attract men. What is wrong with this world? Have we gone nutty? When shopping with my dad at Wal-Mart I looked at some of the girl’s outfits and the boys walking around and I got to thinking that the kind of guys that they attract is not the kind your Father would like.

Why do we want them? As my dad explained he said that I was like a precious jewel and when the time comes for me to get married he will give that jewel (me) to my husband.

After thinking about it I though that every time you walk out side in that “School Cool” outfit you make a chip on the edge of your jewel. After a while you chip it down so much that falls apart in your hands. Each time you are slapping Him and your father.

It would be like giving someone a ruby that has been smashed and cracked. When you put something on think about whether your grandmother would have fainted after seeing you in your “outfit” or say “ I love that!”

Modesty is not just clothes; it’s about showing the love you have for both your father and your Heavenly Father. It’s about showing respect to those around you. Modesty is a statement that says, “Daddy I love you.”
