Sewing Pattern Numbers

S&S sidebar

Below are some numbers of modest clothing patterns that I have used before and liked very much. You might find that many of them are actually costume patterns. The reason is that most of the other dress patterns in the pattern books did not fit what we were looking for. So we turned to the costume section and found many nice dresses and skirts, especially in the historical section.

Girls

McCall's # 9424 - Pioneer Costumes

- Includes patterns for two dress styles (with or without sleeve ruffles), two pinafore styles (with or without ruffle) and two prairie bonnet styles (with or without neck cape). We have used this pattern several times, and have been very pleased with it.

McCall's #7253 - Poodle Skirts

- Okay, the point of this is not to dress up like we're living in the '50s. However, made with nice fabric (we use calico) and without the poodle, these skirts are very feminine and modest. Plus they whip up in very little time! They are made with elastic waist, so they can fit almost anyone - even ladies -  if you adjust the skirt length. Ladies

Butterick #6816 - Mrs. Santa Claus

- It sounds a little strange to have a Mrs. Santa pattern on here, but I was very happy with the pattern! This pattern includes 2 variations of the dress (I made dress B), a cape, and an apron. Click here for pictures of the dresses I made with this pattern.

McCall's #9423 - Ladies' Pioneer Costumes

- The larger version of the girls pioneer dress! Includes patterns for the dress, two apron styles (with or without ruffle) and two bonnet styles (with or without neck cape). The difference between the ladies and girls is that the ladies apron has a gathered waist.

McCall's #8107 - Princess Style Dress

- A simple dress with princess seams and a flared skirt. Includes 9 different options; we made dress A (it was the most modest one). Click here for a picture of my dress (link coming soon).

Hopefully I can add more pattern numbers to this page as I sew more. Keep checking back!
